Abstract
Lack of engagement in the unlicensed staff can contribute to the disconnection between unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) and licensed coworkers, leaving the accomplishment of engagement to come from their own personal ideas on professionalism. This project aimed to develop and implement a workplace mentoring program between licensed and unlicensed staff. The target audience of the project was UAPs. Two health system urgent care clinics were selected for the engagement project intervention. Education on communication using the TeamSTEPPS® communication model to help mentors provide a structured approach to communication. This education was implemented to increase the UAPs' engagement through a model to learn clear and concise communication, professionalism, and practice standards. The licensed staff were coached to be informal mentors to the UAPs during this time. The mentorship was completed by Registered Nurses working in the same clinic as the UAPs. This project allowed UAPs to increase workplace engagement and professional development. With this evidence-based practice mentorship project, UAP engagement was improved.
