Abstract

Many Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs) have reported lower job satisfaction rates and feelings of discontentment regarding their roles as Advanced Practice Nurses because of poor transitions to practice. Factors that contribute to successful transitions include assisting novice FNPs with developing a professional role identity, mentoring, and structured orientation processes during the first year of practice. This quality improvement project involved the development and implementation of a resource tool to assist novice FNPs with transitioning to practice. The resource tool provided evidence-based guidelines at their fingertips to assist with patient care decisions.
