Improving Nurse Efficiency through Flowsheet Macros

Abstract

Nurses report that the documentation burden is significant. This project proposed a solution to reduce documentation burden for nurses. Flowsheet macros is a new technology solution that fills in electronic health record (EHR) flowsheet documentation in one click. This allows nurses to spend less time documenting and more time at the bedside with the patient. Macros can also be personalized by nurses to allow for repeatable documentation to be completed more efficiently. Macros have been used by other disciplines to reduce documentation time. Implementing flowsheet macros reduced flowsheet documentation time for nurses in a step-down unit by 17.77%.
