Air Temperature Profile Measurements from 2023 to 2025 in Wanchese NC

Abstract

"This dataset contains a long-term air temperature profile dataset from two arrays‚Äîone array was fixed to an offshore platform on the Croatan Sound (about 100 m offshore) and the other on a field of saltmarsh grass about 0.6 km away in Wanchese, NC. Measurements were taken between June 2023 and March 2025. The solar radiation shielded air temperature loggers were located at each one-meter interval from 1 m to 7 m above ground level (seven loggers per array). Also included in the dataset is the wind speed and direction provided by a Weather Flow station at the offshore location. Local sunrise and sunset times collected from the Astronomical Applications Department of the U.S. Naval Observatory are also provided. Air temperature was logged generally in two-minute intervals, and wind speed and direction in five-minute intervals. The dataset is provided as raw CSV files as well as in a combined and synchronized “.mat” filetype with ten-minute averaging. Missing data is noted. A variety supporting MATLAB scripting is provided to organize, synchronize, and relate the measured quantities in plots."
