| dc.description.abstract | In my family the matriarch is the keeper of our stories, the guardian of our traditions, and the embodiment of our love. The role of a matriarch is a position of leadership that is preserved through generations, emboldened by the comradery of women. My art aspires to present the conversation from matriarch to the present generation of women. I embrace and elevate traditional female roles like sewing and weaving by using textiles in a quilt like manner. I present these women as strong and warm through my composition and color pallet. I use stitching to weave together the memory of these women while showing a harmonious contrast between their love and strength. They are not a remembrance of something once departed, but rather a blanket of comfort that will remain after one is gone. | |
