There is a need for more effective policies for environmental sustainability within campus communities, including their athletic departments. This study, conducted to assess both athletic department sustainability initiatives and university environmental policy goals and actions, determines if there is any disconnect between the athletic department and larger university community at a Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) school. Research relies on data collected from the athletic department administration, school and university system policies, and campus groups like the university sustainability committee. Results from this study indicate that both the athletic department and the university lack clearly defined or formal goals or policies regarding sustainability. There is not a great disconnect; the policies simply do not exist.
