The history of Fayetteville State University and its Charles W. Chesnutt Library are intimately connected with one of the most important writers from North Carolina. Charles Waddell Chesnutt, 1858-1933, was a celebrated short story writer and novelist who tackled issues of race and class in ways that still resonate today.
