This study explored women’s experiences and sense of belonging in dental school, as facilitated by affinity groups. These groups were designed to promote community building, enhance self-efficacy, foster a sense of belonging, and support mental well-being, while also creating space for organic mentorship and professional growth. The central aim of the study was to examine how affinity groups intentionally cultivate supportive environments for women in dental education and to capture the lived experiences of student participants. As the number of women entering and graduating from dental school continues to rise, understanding their experiences of belonging and success within academic environments has become increasingly important. Although dentistry has historically been male-dominated, shifting gender demographics have reshaped the culture and expectations of the profession. Women in dentistry have continued to face unique challenges and stereotypes, making the cultivation of inclusive, affirming learning environments essential. This study drew on existing literature emphasizing belonging as a critical factor in student success and well-being, particularly in professional schools. Prior research has demonstrated that a strong sense of belonging positively influences academic performance, persistence, and long-term career satisfaction. Findings highlighted the role of affinity groups in strengthening participants’ sense of belonging throughout their educational journey. By fostering community and shared understanding, these groups supported resilience, confidence, and persistence in the face of academic pressures. Ultimately, the study sought to demonstrate that cultivating belonging through affinity groups enhanced women’s experiences in dental school. Participation in programs such as Sista Circles positively influenced students’ sense of belonging, mental health, and preparedness for their future careers in dentistry.
