Description | Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a complication of major surgery. Novel renal biomarkers have been identified that show good sensitivity for assessing the risk of AKI development much earlier than current diagnostic measures. These biomarkers were primarily studied in a specific cardiac surgical population. The gold standard diagnostic measure of AKI is a change in serum creatinine (SCr), which is a late marker of renal functional loss. The aim of this study is to utilize NephroCheck® urine assay for tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 and insulin-like growth factor binding protein 7 (uTIMP-2*IGFBP7), two novel renal inflammatory biomarkers, to assess the risk of developing an AKI after major intraabdominal surgery for adult surgical patients. | |
